Memories & Stories

Imperial Sugar Company,
I was born in 1940, have sugar rations from World War II and I have memories of my mother talking about sugar being rationed. When I was about 10, my mother ordered me a Westinghouse cookbook for children. She allowed me to bake goodies and deliver them to shut-ins. One Saturday, I had a friend over and we decided to make a wedding cake. Mother was playing bridge and paid no attention to us in the kitchen. Five pounds of sugar and pans full of cake later we had to confess our dilemma of what to do with the mess we made.

I am still baking and carrying goodies to shut-ins.

Annie Caldwell
