Memories & Stories

Imperial Sugar Company,
I had to laugh when I saw the article in the Baton Rouge paper about “My First Cookbook.” I still have my original cookbook from 1959. My mother passed the cookbook on to me when I left the house. My daughter, who is now almost 17, used it when first learning to cook.

I have memories of many recipes, Apple Crunch, Jerry’s Bars and Circus cookies. I guess I was really into making desserts with two older brothers but my absolute most popular recipe was Tiny Turtle Salad. I made this for my friends when they came over. I remember using a cherry for the head, as I don’t like green olives. The salad was always a hit.

Thank you for bringing back some fun childhood memories!
Claire Broering
