Memories & Stories

Imperial Sugar Company,
I do not have the “My First Cookbook” from 1959 - but I do have several of Imperial Sugar’s cookbooks. I grew up in the country, without a lot of money and free cookbooks that various companies issued were our prize possessions. Those were the ones we used (along with the recipes my mother “created”). My mother loved to bake and was a patient teacher - letting me make a mess and later letting her grandchildren “help.” I still love baking - and my company cookbooks are my favorites. They are a bit stained and have stars by recipes I like to use.

I grew up thinking there was only one brand of baking powder, flour and sugar (Imperial, of course).

Thanks,
Nelda S. Stroder
